I've learnt a lot of life lessons on my chess board. This one is interesting, and it may sound cliche, but it happens more often than can be ignored.
The fear of losing often becomes the reason we lose.
I've noticed something interesting in my chess games - I play better against stronger players because they're worried about losing to someone ranked below them. But when I'm winning and should feel confident, I start playing scared, worried about messing up my advantage.
This shows up everywhere in life, doesn't it? In business, relationships, or trying something new - we often hold back when we have something to lose. The minute we switch from trying to win to trying not to lose, we've already started to fail.
Just like in chess, doing well in life needs both smart thinking and bravery. The real challenge isn't beating others - it's beating our own fears.
Has this happened to you? When did playing it too safe hold you back?
